We booked our first family holiday with Ruth in 2018. Our two children had arrived very close together, and at that point we had only travelled in the UK or with family. Simply put, we really had no idea what sort of family holiday we wanted, only hazy memories that were 20+ years old and a vague idea of what we did not want.
Ruth spent considerable time discussing what we wanted from our holiday. We talked about destinations that we had visited pre-children and what we liked about them, before talking about fond childhood holiday memories. There were things we hadn't considered too - kids clubs, mini discos, gyms, and how a resort holiday would compare to some of the more active trips we had previously undertaken.
I recall advising that "somewhere like Croatia, Malta or Cape Verde with things to do for the kids" would work and most importantly that “we did not want boring food”. Ruth listened intently, was clearly taking lots of notes and promised to come back to us within 48 hours.
Ruth's resort suggestions incorporated the required climate as well as children’s clubs that would take my three year old son, lots of activities for the kids plus a plethora of restaurants, included on a half board basis.
Despite me doubting to Ruth that I would go to a gym, I ended up heading there regularly. I had also been indifferent to the mini disco, as my children have a strict routine and generally refuse to nap. However, Ruth assured me that this would go out of the window and they would want to nap after a day in the sun and pool. She was correct on this too.
Ruth sent us to the MarBella Corfu Hotel, which boasts gorgeous gardens, several restaurants, an excellent kids club, gym, spa and many other amenities too.
We stayed in a special family room with a sliding door to separate the kids, so we could pop them to sleep at bedtime and have an area to enjoy drinking coffee and watching TV.
The hotel has some wonderful swimming pools with slides and other fun apparatus that the kids enjoyed playing with and making a splash. They were at the kids club daily, the mini disco and enjoying movies nightly, enabling us to enjoy time together both as a family and adults.
Upon arrival at the airport on the way out, BA announced a strike on our return date, but not which flights would be impacted. Shortly before boarding and feeling a little frantic, I sent Ruth an email - what was going to happen? Would we be stuck in Corfu? Suffice to say, I spent the whole flight in an agitated state, but when turning on our phones a few hours later, there was a message from Ruth: "Don't worry, I've currently got you on back-up flights with EasyJet. Did you park at the airport? If not, I have a reserve flight with better timings going to Heathrow".
In the end, there was no strike, but the anxiety didn't ruin my holiday and I was able to relax knowing that everything would be absolutely fine.
I would not only book future holidays with Ruth due to her knowledge and genuine advice, but also how quickly she reacts when things go wrong, like airline strikes or a global pandemic. She is a kind-hearted and empathetic travel advisor and always makes time to support you as well as being genuinely passionate about getting your family the best holiday. Truly exceptional service.
Thank you so much, Ruth, from The Moss Family.
