The Harris family tasked me with finding a holiday that incorporated city, nature and beach. Having booked with me previously, I was confident that a Thailand adventure would suit them perfectly...
Finding a two-week family holiday that works for everyone is no mean feat, but Ruth pulled it off with our first visit to Thailand, helping to create one of the best trips we have experienced yet.
We flew with Emirates via Dubai to Bangkok, staying in the heart of the city at the Chatrium Riverside on the East Bank of the Chao Phraya River.
A spacious family suite with fantastic views worked very well for us, and we enjoyed access to the Executive Lounge, which offers complimentary snacks throughout the day.
Wanting to make the most of our limited time in Bangkok, we had pre-booked a guided day tour around the temples and markets, which was enjoyable and informative.
The following morning, it was an early start for the journey to Elephant Hills in Khao Sok National Park. We had been eagerly anticipating this part of the holiday, and it more than lived up to our expectations - probably our favourite part of the entire trip. We would happily go back in a heartbeat!
We loved everything about it - the enthusiastic guides, great tents and delicious, plentiful food. The staff always ensured there was enough for us to eat, knowing that we had dietary requirements.
We took part in all the activities: the rainforest hike, canoeing, kayaking, and spending time with the elephants. The Lake Safari on the second of our two-day trip was just stunning. Beautiful, peaceful, and with no phone connectivity whatsoever, you have no choice but to completely switch off.
Elephant Hills transferred us to La Vela Hotel in Khao Lak, a fantastic beach location, close to the restaurants, shops and local markets. Breakfast was included, and we enjoyed eating in the beachside restaurant, especially when the delicious Japanese buffet was offered.
It was very easy to walk everywhere from La Vela, which we liked to do, but taxis were easily available too.
The Thai cooking class at Ning was great fun to do as a family. It totally catered for us and really showed us how to be adventurous with Thai food.
We loved the Thai people - they are charming, helpful and always so very pleasant.
There is so much to see and do, and great value to be had with eating out very reasonably priced and fantastic beach massages for around just £8.
We will absolutely be back to visit other areas, although April was incredibly hot, so probably at another time of year.
Thank you for your help and hard work, Ruth. We would happily recommend you to anyone wanting to do this trip.
